I’ve always been passionate about IT—probably spent way too much of my childhood tinkering with computers instead of doing homework. That passion eventually turned into a career, and over the past decade, I’ve had the privilege of working with companies in everything from agriculture tech to digital marketing, solving complex technical problems and building scalable cloud solutions.
My approach to both work and life is pretty spontaneous. I believe the best solutions often come from being open to unexpected paths and not being afraid to take calculated risks. Whether it’s tackling a challenging technical problem or trying a new adrenaline sport, I’m usually up for the adventure. That sense of adventure is exactly how I ended up in the Netherlands after growing up in Johannesburg, South Africa. Life has a funny way of taking you on unexpected journeys when you take hold of the oppertynities given, and mine led me from the highveld to helping organizations across Europe build better digital platforms.

Mobile Crane IoT Telemetry System for Spierings Mobile Cranes

At Spierings Cranes, I developed an IoT solution to unlock telemetry data from mobile cranes. This solution also enabled secure remote configuration of crane parameters via Azure IoT. I set up the IoT environment, created Azure IoT modules, and established digital twins for Siemens PLCs. I also prototyped modules to allow OTA firmware updates for various crane drive trains.

These projects required running and integrating different kinds of ML algorithms, creating and maintaining dashboards, data pipelines, Flask applications and APIs hosted on AWS or GCP. In addition I was responsible for general support for the team, devops, sysadmin related tasks, technical coaching and support, workshops and presentations as well as conducting interviews with applicants.

A platform used by multiple organizations to administrate digital marketing campaigns and provide a centralized location for insights and information to assist marketers in steering campaigns to achieve maximum impact. My work involved the design, implementation and maintenance of data pipelines to collect and aggregate large amounts of data with complex workflows written in python using tools such as luigi and pyspark and EMR. The main web application providing statistics, configuration and reporting is a monolithic flask application hosted on Heroku with a small number of supporting services using numerous AWS services such RDS, S3 and Lambda.

Starting as a part time developer during my studies and later full time at the Greenhouse Group, I supported marketing and BI teams by contributing an in-house SaaS platform, building API’s to support marketing campaigns.
